Breast Procedures
Breast augmentation is a surgical procedure which is designed to enlarge and reshape a woman's breasts. It is performed for a number of reasons including:

Breast Augmentation
To enlarge a breast which a woman personally feels is too small
To balance asymmetry in size or shape of one's breasts
To reconstruct a breast that has been lost or damaged due to surgery or other trauma
To restore volume and shape to a breast that has become deficient due to pregnancy, breast-feeding, or severe weight loss
In breast augmentation, size and shape are provided to the breast in the form of an implant (breast prosthesis). Implants currently come in two varieties, saline filled and silicone gel filled. All implants have an exterior solid silicone rubber shell or balloon which is filled with either saline (salt water) solution or silicone gel which can vary from liquid to semi solid in consistency.

The implant is most often placed beneath the breast tissue and the pectoralis muscle adjacent to the rib cage. These implants are said to be submuscular, subpectoral, or retropectoral in location. In some instances the implant may be located closer to the surface on top of the pectoralis muscle and directly beneath the breast tissue. These implants are said to be submammary, subglandular or retro-mammary.

In order to place the implant, an incision is made in the skin in one of several locations. The most commonly used incision is placed in the fold under the breast (inframammary fold) and is thus called the IMF incision. Other incisions, in decreasing frequency, include around the areola (periareolar), in the armpit (axillary), and through the bellybutton (umbilical). Through the incision a pocket is created in the desired location to accommodate the implant.

Implants come in many sizes, various shapes, and the option of being filled with saline solution or silicone gel. Implants need to be customized for each individual depending on their expectations, physical build, tissue characteristics and a multitude of other factors.

During your consultation Dr. Flory will help you select the implant which is best for you.
