November of 2006 witnessed the return of silicone gel filled implants. Some of the advantages of silicone filled implants includes a more natural feel, fewer visible ripples and wrinkles and an extended replacement interval. Some of the drawbacks of silicone filled implants are an increased risk of scar tissue buildup (primarily with breakage), a need for more frequent physician follow-ups, potentially more difficult replacements, and a higher initial cost.

Dr. Flory has extensive experience with silicone gel filled implants and has used them for over 28 years. During that time there have been significant improvements in their construction and design. Silicone gel filled implants, however, are not for everyone. The final choice in the type of implant used is up to the patient.
