Revision Augmentation
In an ideal world, breast augmentation would be a one time operation and implants would last a lifetime. Unfortunately this is not the case. Implants have to be replaced (see Replacement Augmentation) and sometimes additional surgery is needed to treat implants that are no longer in the proper position or don't provide the desired shape or fullness.

The most common reason for revisional augmentation is the desire for a larger or smaller implant size. In some cases saline can be added (or subtracted) to the current implant to meet this requirement. Silicone gel filled implants can only be replaced to change volume. There is a limit to the amount of addition fill that can realistically be added to a saline implant. Placing addition saline in an implant is a relatively simple office operating room procedure.

The second most common reason for revisional augmentation is malposition of the implant. Implants don't always stay where they are initially placed. Occasionally, they may not be placed in the correct position at the start or the wrong style of implant may have been used. Other conditions can sometimes distort their position or shape, such as pregnancy, severe weight loss or loss of tissue elasticity with aging.

In most cases it is to the advantage of the patient that they return to their original surgeon for corrections. Occasionally the patient or their surgeon may feel that another plastic surgeon may offer added benefits. Dr Flory is frequently called upon to correct problems that others have had difficulties alleviating.

The cost associated with revisional augmentation can only be estimated after a full consultation with Dr. Flory. Dr. Flory welcomes the opportunity to provide breast implant patients a second opinion when requested. A full explanation of the problem will be given along with a discussion of the possible corrections.
